so sorry it's been so long

Wow, what a couple of months it's been!

The membership site crashed and burned! My videos were just too big! But before you panic, we've found another host and a new development package, and I'm happy to announce that the MEMBERSHIP SITE will be coming your way very soon.

ps. Another of the holdups has been creating a whole swag of EXCLUSIVE, DETAILED videos for the site before it goes operational. Man, these babies take time!

The Logo Handbook

Another reason for the long break between newsletters is the effort that's gone into this fabulous resource. And I'm pleased to announce that The Logo Handbook is now available!

If you've ever wanted to create a logo or improve your current logo skills, this is the BEST DARNED AID you can possibly lay your hands on.

The Logo Handbook is the result of 20+ years of logo creation experience and takes you from receiving a brief, through brainstorming, research and illustration right up to presentation to the client (or yourself if it's for you).

But here's a hint for my subscribers...

The book is so new that I'm still looking for reviewers, you know, people who will read it and let me know what they think of it. So what I've done – and this is a first for me – is I've offered a $20 discount to anyone willing to 'review' the book.

You will find the link about three-quarters of the way down the page. Or you can go straight to the reviewer's order page here:

My new mac

Well I've gone and done it - dumped Vista and gone (back) to the Mac. But more importantly, I've bought a product called VMWare Fusion and a license for Windows XP Pro, which can run in a window on the Mac.

My 24 inch iMac is superb. The screen is better than looking out the window (pun intended), and Creative Suite runs twice as fast on the Mac. (Oddly enough, Microsoft's Office Suite seems to run half as fast. Funny that.)

Unfortunately for me, the software that I use to make screen captures - Techsmith's Camtasia, is a PC only product. This setback has contributed to the delay in getting the Membership site up, as well as in completing the Logo Handbook. You see, the videos and the bonuses for the book have had to be captured using a third-party program, then translated into a format readible by Camtasia and re-located to a PC for processing. It all takes time, and there has had to be some experimentation to get the right software mix.

All that's settled now, though, and most of my future videos will be taken on the Mac.

PC users don't despair, though, as CS3 programs are almost identical on both platforms.

My new blog

Coming soon... I'm in the process of sourcing material and support for a new blog specifically for designers, web designers, artists, photographers and other creative people who WORK FROM HOME.

Unnamed as yet, I'm also detailing a list of topics to cover, and I'd love your input. What I'm talking about here includes such estoteric topics as getting print quotes, sourcing cheap software, learning new skills, finding inspiration, covering all the bases, joint ventures and creating print-ready files.

In short doing all the work yourself – or knowing where to find help when its required.

The purpose of the blog is to help those designers (and other creatives) who 'go it alone' and as such don't have the same support structure that a similar person may have in a medium or large company situation.

Looking forward to hearing from you on this one.

That's it for now.

cheers all
